Late Show with David Letterman Season 9 Episode 72 Kevin Spacey, Jerome Bettis, Jane Monheit

  • December 18, 2001

Kevin Spacey, Jerome Bettis, and Jane Monheit are guests on tonight's episode of the Late Show with David Letterman. In his typical fashion, Letterman wastes no time in ribbing his guests, starting with Spacey. He asks the House of Cards actor about his recent travels to Australia, quipping, "Did you steal any of their wildlife while you were down there?"

Bettis, the former NFL running back, is up next and Letterman asks him about his new job as an analyst for NBC Sports. The two discuss the current state of football and the recent controversy surrounding player protests during the National Anthem.

Later in the show, Jane Monheit takes the stage to perform a song from her latest album. The jazz singer has been on the show before and Letterman is always quick to express his admiration for her talent.

As always, the iconic Top Ten list makes an appearance on tonight's episode. This time around, the topic is "Rejected T-Shirt Slogans for the Olympics." The list includes gems such as "I don't always watch the Olympics, but when I do, I prefer curling" and "I may not be an Olympian, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night."

Letterman ends the show with his signature sign-off, thanking the guests and reminding the audience to tune in tomorrow night for another can't-miss episode. With a mix of celebrity interviews, musical performances, and irreverent humor, the Late Show with David Letterman continues to be a must-watch for late-night television fans.
