Ep 1. Fresh Starts

During the first episode of season 2 of Life Below Zero: Northern Territories, titled Fresh Starts, we are introduced to a group of resilient individuals who have chosen to live off the grid in the remote Alaskan wilderness. As winter begins to set in, these Alaskans must work hard to secure enough food and resources to last them throughout the harsh winter months.

Throughout the episode, we follow each of these individuals as they go about their daily routines. From fishing and hunting to gathering firewood and building shelters, every task presents a new challenge and an opportunity to learn something new.

One of the cast members featured in this episode is Glenn Villeneuve, who has been living alone in the wilderness for several years. We watch as Glenn sets out on a hunting trip to secure enough meat to last him through the winter. Despite the difficulty of the task, Glenn remains focused and determined, ultimately succeeding in bagging a caribou and bringing it back to his camp.

Another cast member, Sue Aikens, is the owner and operator of the Kavik River Camp, a remote outpost that offers lodging and supplies to hunters and adventurers. We see Sue as she prepares for the arrival of her first guests of the season and strives to make sure that everything is in order for their stay. Despite the challenges of running such a remote camp, Sue seems to thrive in her independence and loves the solitude and wild beauty that surrounds her.

We also meet Chip and Agnes Hailstone, who live with their children on the Kobuk River in Noorvik. Chip, who grew up in the wilderness, teaches his children the necessary skills to survive in this unforgiving environment. We see the family as they work together to secure enough fish and game to feed their family and smoke the meat for long-term storage.

Finally, we are introduced to Andy Bassich, a former carpenter who gave up his life in the city to pursue his dream of living in the wilderness. Andy lives with his sled dogs in a remote cabin and uses his team to haul wood and supplies throughout the winter. Despite the isolation and harshness of his lifestyle, Andy seems content and happy with his decision to live off the land.

Throughout Fresh Starts, we see these individuals face numerous challenges and setbacks, from broken equipment to harsh weather conditions. However, they all share a strong determination to survive and thrive in this beautiful but unforgiving environment. As they face each new obstacle, they demonstrate the resilience and grit that is necessary to survive in the wilderness, while also showcasing the beauty and wonder of life below zero.
