- September 28, 2022
In "Life Below Zero: Northern Territories" season 2 episode 6, titled "Best Laid Plans", viewers are introduced to a new challenge for the show's cast of characters living in the remote Alaskan wilderness. With winter quickly approaching and the threat of starvation looming, survivalists must prepare to take on some of the toughest weather conditions in the world.
The episode centers around the preparations each person makes in order to prepare for the harsh winter ahead. Glenn Villeneuve, for example, has a lot on his to-do list. He's got to make his cabin more suitable for the winter, gather enough firewood to heat his living space, and hunt enough caribou to sustain him through the coming months. He knows that winter can be a life or death situation for people living in the wilderness, so he must be meticulous in his preparations.
Meanwhile, Sue Aikens, the owner of Kavik River Camp, also has a long list of tasks to complete. She relies heavily on snowmobiles to transport goods and materials across the tundra, but in order to do this, she must first make sure they're in working condition. She's also got to take steps to avoid the caribou migration route, which goes right through her camp. This means she'll have to move her hunting blinds and set up alternative access points, all while dealing with the freezing cold temperatures.
For Jessie Holmes, the harsh reality of living in the Northern Territories sets in as he realizes he doesn't have enough meat to last him through the winter. He sets out to hunt caribou, but his rifle backfires, throwing a wrench in his plans. Now, he must find a way to fix his gun and complete his hunt before it's too late.
Finally, Austin Manelick is making preparations for winter as well. As a young survivalist, he knows that he must be extra careful in order to avoid any accidents that could lead to serious injury or death. In this episode, he's focused on making his cabin weatherproof and gathering enough firewood to get him through the winter. He must also make sure that his generator is working properly, as it is his main source of electricity.
As the episode progresses, viewers get a glimpse into the daily lives of these people who choose to live in some of the most difficult conditions in the world. They work tirelessly, day in and day out, in order to make sure that they have what they need to survive. From gathering firewood to fixing snowmobiles to hunting caribou, their days are packed with tasks that many would find overwhelming.
Despite the challenges they face, none of the survivalists in "Life Below Zero: Northern Territories" gives up. They know that the harsh conditions are what tie them to the land and that they must push through the difficulties in order to survive. "Best Laid Plans" shows just how determined these individuals are and the steps they take to thrive in the harsh Alaskan wilderness.
