In Life Is Wild, Season 1 Episode 8, titled "Animal House," the family is faced with some tough decisions as they grapple with the reality of life in South Africa. Danny, the eldest child, is struggling to adjust and seems to be acting out more than usual. Meanwhile, Oliver and Emily are still trying to settle into their new roles as parents and figure out the best way to navigate the challenges of raising their children in a foreign country.

The main focus of this episode is on the family's efforts to help a pregnant female elephant that has wandered onto their property. They quickly realize that the elephant is in distress and needs medical attention, but they are unable to get a veterinarian to come and help right away. With time running out, the family must take matters into their own hands and come up with a plan to save the elephant and her unborn calf.

While all of this is going on, Sophie and Chenai are dealing with their own issues. Sophie is struggling with the fact that she may have feelings for Jesse, the family's guide, and she's not sure how to reconcile those feelings with her loyalty to her boyfriend, Dylan. Chenai, meanwhile, is grappling with the realities of life in South Africa and the fact that she's starting to see things from a different perspective.

As the episode progresses, we see the family working together to try and save the elephant. It's a difficult and dangerous task, but they are determined to do whatever it takes to help the animal. Along the way, they learn a lot about themselves and each other, and they come to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the wilderness that surrounds them.

In the end, the family is able to save the elephant and her calf, but not without some close calls and difficult moments along the way. As they reflect on the experience, they realize that they are all stronger and more capable than they ever imagined, and that they are truly living a wild and unpredictable life in South Africa. The episode ends on a hopeful note, as the family comes together to celebrate their success and look forward to whatever challenges the future may bring.
