Ep 1. Brazen Breakouts

Locked Up Abroad season 11 episode 1, titled "Brazen Breakouts," takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride through the daring escape attempts of American prisoners in foreign countries. The episode features three separate stories, each one more shocking than the last.

The first story follows a group of American backpackers who are caught smuggling drugs in Bali, Indonesia. After being sentenced to more than 20 years in prison, they become determined to escape. The second story takes place in the notorious La Modelo prison in Colombia, where American freelance journalist Gil Rosenberg is serving time for carrying illegal firearms. Despite being warned about the horrors of the prison, Rosenberg foolishly ignores the advice of his fellow inmates and continues to speak out against the corrupt officials. When he is brutally beaten by a group of guards, he realizes that his only hope for survival is to escape. Along with several other inmates, he devises a plan to break out of the prison using homemade weapons and sheer determination.

The final story follows American businessman Alan Davatz, who is imprisoned in Lima, Peru for his involvement in a Ponzi scheme. After spending several years behind bars, Davatz becomes obsessed with the idea of escaping. He enlists the help of a fellow inmate who has a connection to the outside world, and together they plan an elaborate escape that involves digging a tunnel out of the prison. The plan is risky and dangerous, but Davatz is willing to do whatever it takes to gain his freedom.

Throughout the episode, viewers are taken on a wild and unpredictable journey as these prisoners risk everything to break out of their nightmarish situations. From makeshift weapons to smuggled phones and daring tunnels, the ingenuity and desperation of these men is truly awe-inspiring.
