Ep 7. Dangerous Liasons

Locked Up Abroad is a compelling documentary series that chronicles the lives of individuals who have made bad choices in foreign countries and subsequently find themselves imprisoned, often in overcrowded and dangerous prisons. Jake loves to travel, and on a trip to Thailand, he meets a woman named Sarah. Sarah is beautiful, charming, and adventurous, and Jake can't resist her allure. He falls head over heels, spending more and more time with her, even though he knows very little about her and her past.

One day, Sarah suggests that they take a trip across the border into Cambodia, promising him an experience he will never forget. Even though he's never been to Cambodia before, Jake agrees, excited for the adventure that awaits him.

Once they arrive at their destination, however, things take a turn for the worse. Sarah begins acting strangely, and Jake realizes too late that she has lured him into a dangerous situation. He finds himself in a Cambodian prison, with no hope of escape.

The conditions in the prison are terrible. The cells are overcrowded, the food is scarce and often spoiled, and disease runs rampant. Jake is beaten by other prisoners and guards, and he quickly realizes that he is in for a long and terrible ordeal. He is desperate to get out and get back home to the US, but he knows that it won't be easy.

Through interviews with Jake's family and friends, as well as Jake himself, we learn about his life before he travelled to Thailand, his love of adventure, and the choices he made that led him down this dangerous path. We also get a glimpse into the corruption and violence that plagues prisons in Cambodia, and the efforts that Jake's family and a group of human rights activists make to get him released.

"Dangerous Liasons" is a powerful and thought-provoking episode of Locked Up Abroad. It raises important questions about the risks we take when we travel, the consequences of making poor choices, and the plight of those who find themselves locked up abroad. It's a cautionary tale about the dangers of trusting strangers and the importance of being aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling in countries where the laws and customs are vastly different from your own.
