In the 39th episode of Love It or List It season 7, titled "All Work No Play", viewers are introduced to a family of four who has outgrown their home. The parents, Rob and Janine, have two growing children and they have come to the realization that they need more space to accommodate their family's needs. The family's current home is a 1950s bungalow, which they purchased ten years ago with the intention of renovating. However, fast forward to present day, and they have yet to complete the renovations they envisioned.
Rob and Janine are torn between two options: do they love their home enough to invest the time and money into completing the renovations, or do they list it and start fresh in a new home that is already move-in ready? The family's desire for more space and for a fully-functioning home are pitted against their attachment to the current property, which they have put so much effort into already.
Enter the Love It or List It team, comprised of interior designer Hilary Farr and real estate agent David Visentin, who aim to help the family make an informed decision. Hilary takes on the challenge of fully renovating the family's current home, working within the confines of the couple's budget to create a functional, beautiful space that meets the family's needs. With each renovation Hilary suggests, Rob and Janine must consider if it is worth the time and effort to keep working on their existing home.
Meanwhile, David's job is to find the family a new home that meets all of their wants and needs. He spends the episode touring different properties and showing them to Rob and Janine, attempting to sway them towards listing their current home in favor of one that is completely move-in ready.
Throughout the episode, viewers get to witness the family struggle with their decision-making process, weighing the pros and cons of each option. As Hilary and David present their solutions, Rob and Janine take the time to think about what's really important to them, whether it's staying in a neighborhood they love, or having enough space for everyone in the family to feel comfortable.
"All Work No Play" is a classic episode of Love It or List It, exploring the theme of home renovation versus moving. It tackles the emotional and financial challenges that come with considering the two options, and provides an entertaining, suspenseful look at how the family ultimately decides what to do.
