Lucky Dog Season 6 Episode 26 Tubbs

  • May 24, 2019

As his sixth season concludes, Brandon McMillan has yet another challenge to test the skills he's acquired over a lifetime of training and working with dogs. In this episode, aptly titled Tubbs, Brandon has been asked to take in a 5-year-old bloodhound named Tubbs.

From the moment that Tubbs steps foot in the Lucky Dog Ranch, it's clear that he's a tough nut to crack. With a howl that could fill any room, a constant wagging tail, and a hard-headed streak that refuses to be broken, this bloodhound presents quite a challenge.

To start with, Tubbs is overexcited. He leaps and runs around, crashing into everything. Brandon makes the smart choice of taking Tubbs for a walk to calm him down. But it's not long before Tubbs' nose picks up a scent and he's off and running, pulling Brandon along behind him. This is where Brandon shows off his remarkable skills. With firm commands and gentle praise, Brandon is able to calm Tubbs down and get him walking properly on the leash.

At Lucky Dog Ranch, Brandon's first priority is to teach Tubbs basic obedience skills. He starts with Sit, and as expected, it's not easy. Tubbs is too busy sniffing every inch of the ground, so Brandon can't get his attention. To get the point across, Brandon uses his non-verbal cues by using a treat to coax Tubbs into sitting. With time and practice, Tubbs starts to catch on to the new commands.

Moving on to the more challenging side of training, Brandon takes Tubbs to a local television studio to work on his tracking skills. It’s an important skill for a bloodhound, but it takes patience and diligence to teach. Brandon and Tubbs are introduced to a set with all sorts of distractions, like people walking in and out of the studio and around other sets. With a piece of clothing as the scent item Tubbs needs to find, he sniffed and wandered around until finally finding it. With the reward of being able to play, Tubbs was given another opportunity to track.

Back at the Lucky Dog Ranch, Brandon brings in a special helper – a blindfolded crowd acting as a search party. Though it may be challenging for Tubbs to find his target, he's able to do a remarkable job with the help of Brandon. A little bit more practice and some treats later, Brandon is happy with the progress that Tubbs has made in his tracking skills.

With Tubbs' obedience and tracking skills improved, his new owners are brought to the Lucky Dog Ranch to see how he's doing. They're amazed at how much he's learned in such a short amount of time, and Brandon is thrilled to tell them that Tubbs is more than ready to go to his new home.

Lucky Dog is a show where dog stories meet people stories, and the finale of season six is no exception. Tubbs is a tough nut to crack, but with patience and the right set of skills, Brandon is able to help him reach his potential. And even though it's hard to say goodbye, the joy and satisfaction of seeing Tubbs go to his forever home, having learned vital skills along the way, is priceless.
