Amish Haunting is a series based on factual events that have occurred in the Amish community of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Each episode chronicles a unique experience involving supernatural phenomenon. The Amish are extremely superstitious and have a strong, ingrained fear of the devil and witchcraft. Their belief that witches exist to preform the devil's work is as deeply ingrained as their faith in God. The belief that the devil can enter their lives through numerous ways perpetuates some of the Amish lore regarding the supernatural. For example, Amish believe that replicating the human form in any fashion violates the commandment: "Thou shalt not have any graven image before me." It is their devout faith and adherence to this commandment which forbids faces to be crafted onto their dolls. Ignoring this edict can allow the devil into their lives. Season 1 episode 1, "Faceless Doll" and "The Witches Grave," re-enacts two stories. "Faceless Doll" is a story about a girl that receives an English doll--an ordinary doll with blonde hair, blue eyes and a smiling face. To the Amish, this is no ordinary doll; it is an invitation to the devil. Once the doll is brought into the home, the devil is able to enter as well. "The Witches Grave" chronicles Amish practices regarding witches and how they are treated both in life and death. There are severe consequences for those suspected of practicing witchcraft. The accused are shunned. After death rituals protect the Amish from witchcraft. Theatrical performance and eye witness testimony is used to deliver the tale. Some of the faces and identities of the Amish are hidden to protect them from retribution in their community. English subtitles are used for Pennsylvania Dutch. Both the story and history of the belief are included in each story. Amish Haunting will engage any fan of the paranormal or Amish culture. The stories are as much a part of the Amish culture as their faith, yet have remained undisclosed for over a century. The combination of re-enactment and eyewitness testimony work to make each unique tale thought provoking, engaging, intriguing, suspenseful, and entertaining.
