Ep 1. Episode 1

Luther is a thrilling crime drama television series, and season four features six episodes that continue to follow the life and work of John Luther, a brilliant detective in London's Metropolitan Police Service.

Episode one begins with Luther returning to work at the Serious and Serial Crime Unit after a self-imposed exile. The episode opens with a gruesome scene, showing a young couple, Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) and Steven Rose (David O'Hara), being chased through a forest. Alice is the former ally and nemesis of Luther, who we thought had died until this episode, and Steven is a shady businessman involved in criminal activities. They attempt to flee but are ultimately captured and dragged before a group of masked men. Then, they're subjected to an excruciatingly painful interrogation before the masked men set them free.

Following this opening scene, the episode then shifts to a strange case in which a young woman named Megan Cantor is being stalked by someone who broke into her residence and left a mutilated doll on her bed. Megan has a history of mental illness and seems to be delusional. As the investigation proceeds, Luther suggests that Megan herself could be the one behind her own stalking and makes the decision to give her a piece of evidence that allows her to piece together what has happened to her over the past few months.

While Luther is working on Cantor's case, he discovers that Rose is back in town and is on a mission to seek revenge against those who betrayed him. He's not interested in money, power, or any of the material things that Luther thought he cared about. It seems that all he wants is closure, and he's willing to go to any length to get it.

Meanwhile, Alice's husband, Mark North (Paul McGann), is reunited with Luther and informs him that Alice is still alive and that he needs his help in finding her. North believes that she's hiding out from Rose and his associates because of something she did that puts her in danger. Luther eventually agrees to help him, and they set out to find her.

Throughout the episode, there's a growing sense of dread and anticipation as we see the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. We get a glimpse of just how far Luther will go to protect the people he cares about and just how much he's willing to sacrifice for the greater good.

As with the previous seasons, this episode is full of suspense, tension, and shocking twists. It gives us a glimpse into what we can expect from the rest of the season, including the return of some familiar faces, the introduction of new ones, and the ongoing investigation into a serial killer who seems to know a little too much about Luther.

Overall, Episode 1 of Luther's fourth season is a promising start to what is sure to be another thrilling and intense ride through the streets of London. With excellent performances from the cast and the same expert storytelling that has made the previous seasons so captivating, this episode sets the pace for the rest of the season.
