Man With a Plan Season 1 Episode 3 The Puppet Theater

Adam (Matt LeBlanc) and Andi (Liza Snyder) are invited to a couples' dinner with their friends, Don (Alfie Allen) and Marcy (Jenna Fischer). Don and Marcy brag about their perfect marriage, which makes Adam feel like he needs to step up his game as a husband. Adam notices that Don is constantly using puppets to communicate with his wife, which he finds odd. However, when Andi suggests using puppets to communicate with him, Adam realizes that Don may be onto something.

Adam decides to bring puppetry into his relationship with Andi, but his attempts fall flat and only lead to miscommunication. Andi is initially uncomfortable with this new form of communication, but ultimately finds it endearing and playful. Meanwhile, Don and Marcy's perfect facade starts to crumble when they have a heated argument in front of everyone at the dinner party.

As Adam and Andi continue to explore the world of puppetry, they start to notice the flaws in Don and Marcy's marriage. Don uses puppets to avoid conflict and speak his true feelings to Marcy, which ends up causing more problems in the long run. Adam and Andi realize that being honest and direct with each other is a better approach than hiding behind puppets.

Throughout the episode, Adam also tries to teach his oldest daughter, Kate (Grace Kaufman), how to drive. Despite his best efforts, Kate is a nervous wreck behind the wheel and ends up accidentally crashing their car. The mishap leads to a heart-to-heart conversation between Adam and Kate about the pressures of growing up and taking on responsibilities.

In the end, Don and Marcy admit that their marriage isn't perfect and that they have their own set of issues to work through. Adam and Andi learn that every couple has their own way of communicating and there's no one "right" way to do it. The episode ends with Adam and Andi happily communicating with each other without the help of puppets.
