Ep 7. Winter Has Come

Adam agrees to let Joe and Andi take Katie on a camping trip, only to learn the trip is a planned outing for Joe's affable friend, Ernie, and his daughter.

In the opening scene, Adam is seen teaching Teddy how to ride a bike. Though he initially thinks it’s pointless to teach him how to ride a bike in the dead of winter, he realizes that it’s never too early for the boy to learn such things. The kids soon come in and inform him that they need help with a school project. Adam then offers Teddy his full support. And before he could do more, Joe comes in with his affable friend Ernie in tow. Joe and Ernie inform Adam that they’ve planned a camping trip with the kids to the beach. Adam is surprised and hesitant at first, but Joe convinces him that it’ll be a great bonding experience for him and the family.

Having successfully convinced Adam to take the kids camping, Joe and Andi pack their gear for the trip to the amusement of Adam. However, once on the road, Adam realizes that Joe and Andi have actually planned an outing with their friendly neighbors and their children. As the trip progresses, it becomes clear that Ernie doesn't understand basic camping rules, from not bringing any water to not knowing how to pitch a tent. Adam (who's an experienced camper himself) and the kids end up doing all the work themselves, from setting up their tents to building a fire.

As the night approaches, the temperature starts to drop, and the group begins to feel the chill. Faced with such conditions, and being the only experienced camper, Adam takes the lead by warming everyone up with a fire and teaching them how to roast marshmallows. This culminates in the group sharing stories about winter until Ernie and Adam get into a silly argument that Joe manages to squash.

As they prepare for bed, the kids start to feel the full brunt of the winter cold. So Adam comes up with various strategies on how to keep warm that everybody tries, but they all fail. In a bid to help the kids feel more comfortable, Adam pitches his tent close to theirs, allowing the kids to go back and forth and stay warm in the process.

Morning arrives, and the gang packs up camp, hoping to leave the beach before it gets too hot. However, things do not go according to plan, and they end up staying at the beach longer than anticipated. As a result, Katie, Joe's friend's daughter, ends up experiencing heat exhaustion and falls ill. Ernie, out of ideas on how to help his daughter, turns to Adam, hoping for some solid advice. Despite his initial frustrations with Ernie, Adam quickly jumps into action and uses his camping experience to help the girl cool down and feel better.

In the end, the group finally packs up their gear and heads back home. Adam and Joe share a moment of brotherhood and are glad that the trip helped the two families bond. And as they drive away from the beach, Teddy announces that he wants to start learning how to surf. The episode ends with a montage of each of the characters surfing, and the family having a good time together.

Overall, the episode Winter Has Come depicted a fun yet sometimes chaotic trip to the beach. It was a great opportunity for the families to bond and learn valuable lessons in the process. The episode showcased a better understanding of the characters' personalities, highlighted their strengths and weaknesses, and established a bond among the families.
