Adam Burns is a contractor and a family man, tasked with raising his three children while his wife Andi goes back to work. In this episode, titled "What About Bob?", Adam's father-in-law, Joe, visits for the weekend, throwing Adam's peaceful routine into chaos.
Joe, played by actor Swoosie Kurtz, is a stereotypical "difficult" senior citizen - demanding, impossible to please, and with a talent for starting arguments. Adam and Andi are both on edge as they prepare for his arrival, but things quickly get worse when Joe starts critiquing Adam's parenting skills and questioning his business decisions.
As Adam tries to grit his teeth and appease Joe, he also has to deal with his own parental frustrations. His youngest child, Teddy, has started biting kids at school, and Adam and Andi are struggling to figure out how to discipline their son without being too harsh. At the same time, Adam's middle child, Kate, is going through a "goth" phase, complete with black lipstick and ripped tights - a trend that Adam's old-fashioned values can't quite comprehend.
Throughout the episode, Adam tries to do his best to juggle all of these different challenges. He takes Joe out to lunch to try and smooth things over, but things quickly go sideways when Joe starts insulted his cooking skills. He tries to talk to Teddy about his behavior, but Teddy refuses to listen and instead throws a tantrum. And he tries to bond with Kate over her interests, but finds himself feeling out of touch with her teenage world.
Despite these setbacks, Adam remains determined to make things work. He comes up with a creative solution to Teddy's biting problem, and even ends up finding some common ground with Joe after an unexpected turn of events. By the end of the episode, the family is back to their usual routine - albeit with a few more gray hairs for Adam.
Overall, this episode of "Man With a Plan" is a lighthearted and relatable look at the challenges of modern parenting. As always, Matt LeBlanc shines as the affable and well-meaning Adam, while the supporting cast brings plenty of laughs and heart to the table. Whether you're a parent yourself or just looking for a good sitcom to watch, "What About Bob?" is sure to deliver on both fronts.
