Marriage, Not Dating is a South Korean television series that follows the turbulent love lives of two individuals, Gong Ki-tae and Joo Jang-mi, who initially pretend to be a couple to get their respective families off their backs but eventually fall in love.

Season 1 episode 9, titled A Night Far Away From Home, picks up where the previous episode left off with Ki-tae and Jang-mi kissing in the bathroom after she accidentally walked in on him in the shower. Despite their growing feelings for each other, they both deny any romantic interest and agree to forget the kiss ever happened.

Ki-tae heads to his family's villa to attend a company retreat, leaving Jang-mi to take care of his mother, who is recovering from surgery, at their house. However, Jang-mi insists on joining Ki-tae and his colleagues for the retreat, saying she needs a break from taking care of his mother.

At the retreat, Ki-tae's boss orders him to introduce his girlfriend to prove that he is committed to getting married. Ki-tae, however, is single and panics at the thought of losing his job if he fails to deliver. He makes a desperate move and begs Jang-mi to pose as his girlfriend for the night.

Jang-mi reluctantly agrees and transforms herself into the perfect girlfriend, impressing everyone with her beauty, grace and charm. Ki-tae's colleagues are convinced that he and Jang-mi are a match made in heaven, much to his boss's delight. Meanwhile, Jang-mi is pleasantly surprised to discover that Ki-tae is quite popular with women and has a softer, more caring side to him.

The fake couple's charade draws to a close and everyone heads to bed. However, Jang-mi is unable to sleep and takes a walk outside, where she runs into Ki-tae. They sit by the river and reminisce about their childhood dreams and ambitions.

Jang-mi reveals her desire to be a normal, happy woman, while Ki-tae confesses that all he ever wanted was to be loved for who he really is, not for his status or wealth. They share a moment of vulnerability and understanding before returning to their separate rooms.

The next morning, Ki-tae's boss announces that he has found a potential bride for Ki-tae and orders him to meet her. Ki-tae is hesitant, but Jang-mi tells him that he owes it to himself to find someone who loves him for who he truly is.

Ki-tae agrees and decides to break up with his fake girlfriend, much to Jang-mi's relief. However, he realizes too late that he has developed real feelings for Jang-mi and rushes back to the villa to find her. When he does, he hugs her tightly and tells her that he loves her.

The episode ends with the two of them staring into each other's eyes, unsure of what the future holds but certain of their feelings for each other.
