In the fourth episode of Masterpiece's Mr. Selfridge, season 43 episode 11, we continue to follow the story of the charismatic retail tycoon Harry Gordon Selfridge and his personal and professional life in London during the early 1900s.
Selfridge is facing mounting pressure from his business partners and board of directors to cut costs and increase profits, but he insists on continuing his lavish spending and extravagant marketing campaigns to keep up with the competition. He hires the famous dancer Anna Pavlova to perform at his store, despite the objections of his staff and the public backlash over the high cost of the event.
Meanwhile, Selfridge's wife, Rose, is struggling to find her place in London society and is feeling increasingly isolated from her husband's busy life. She seeks solace in her friendship with the benevolent Lady Mae, who introduces her to the suffrage movement and encourages her to become more politically active.
As tensions rise between the Selfridges, Harry's relationship with his mistress Ellen Love also becomes strained. Ellen is fed up with his lack of commitment and devotion to her and threatens to leave him, but Harry is reluctant to let her go.
Amidst all this drama, there is also a heist at the store, and the police investigation threatens to tarnish Selfridge's reputation and damage his business.
In this episode, we see the characters face personal and professional challenges that put their relationships, morals, and loyalty to the test. Will Selfridge be able to keep his empire afloat amidst the financial and social pressures of the time? Will Rose find fulfillment outside of her role as a wife and mother? Will Ellen and Harry's relationship survive the strains of their tumultuous lives? Tune in to find out.
