Parliamentary forces are victorious in the English Civil War. The commanding general of the Parliamentary Army, Oliver Cromwell, arranges for the execution of King Charles I and then rules the nation as dictator until his death in 1658. After the passing of Cromwell, many in England begin calling for a restoration of the Monarchy.
