A Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking season 7 episode 12 takes viewers to the Bay Area of California for an epicurean adventure that explores the diverse flavors and culinary traditions of this region. Host Pete Evans is joined by a group of talented chefs, local food experts, and artisanal producers as he travels from Oakland to San Francisco, tasting and savoring some of the incredibly delicious dishes that the Bay Area has to offer.
Pete begins his journey in Oakland, where he meets up with James Syhabout, the chef-owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant Commis. Together, they take a trip to the Oakland Farmers Market and pick up fresh, seasonal produce that will be used to create a stunning meal back at Commis.
Next, Pete heads to the East Bay town of Berkeley, where he visits Adachi Nursery and learns about the unique Japanese vegetables and herbs that are grown there. He then meets up with chef Kyle Itani, who shows him how to prepare a traditional bowl of ramen using ingredients sourced from Adachi Nursery and other local farms.
In San Francisco, Pete meets up with chef Dominique Crenn, the first female chef in the United States to attain three Michelin stars. The two of them head to the Ferry Building Marketplace, where they visit her bakery Atelier Crenn and sample some of her exquisite pastries and specialty breads.
At Fisherman's Wharf, Pete gets a lesson in seafood sustainability from Lauren Loomis, a local fishmonger. He then teams up with chef David Bazirgan to cook up some delicious seafood dishes using sustainably caught fish and local produce.
Finally, Pete visits David Kinch, the chef-owner of the acclaimed Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos. Kinch takes Pete on a tour of his biodynamic garden, where he grows many of the ingredients used in his restaurant's dishes. Together, they prepare a meal in the garden using freshly harvested produce.
Throughout the episode, Pete and his guests showcase the incredible diversity of flavors and culinary traditions that are found in the Bay Area of California.
