Murder One takes off as defense attorney Theodore Hoffman takes on a murder case with lots of twists and turns. Theodore Ted is played by Daniel Benzali. Ted owner of his own law firm Hoffman and Associates tends to take on high profile cases sends him on wild goose chases before he finally finds the real killer. Each season centers on one major case along with smaller cases that are solved during the show. In the first case Ted winds up representing Neil Avedon, played by Jason Gedrick. Neil is accused of killing Jessica Costello, 15 year old sister of Julie Costello; mistress of the rich Richard Cross. Jessica was a promiscuous young girl who was involved with many of the town's rich and famous men, so when she was found murdered in her apartment there was more than one suspect. Richard Cross is played by Stanley Tucci while his mistress Julies is played by Bobbie Phillips. The first suspect arrested is Richard Cross represented by Ted. The lack of evidence against Richard leads to dismissal of his charges. The next suspect Neil Avedon is already a client of Teds. Ted ships Neil off to rehab to sober him up for the trial. Witnesses are found and then lost again, those who agree to testify change their story giving Ted a hard time to get his client off. Neil is convicted and sent to prison but Ted keeps working on the case and does end up finding the real killer. All of Ted's cases have him working overtime and causing problems with his wife Annie who if played by Patricia Clarkson. Ted decides that he wants to work on saving his marriage sells his firm to another lawyer and retires. The new owner of the firm attorney Jimmy Wyler played by Anthony LaPaglia seems to have financial problems keeping the firm afloat.
