Ep 1. Idiots with Numbers!

In the first episode of NANBAKA, we are introduced to the four main characters: Jyugo, Uno, Rock, and Nico. They are inmates of Nanba Prison, which is known for housing the most dangerous criminals in the world and is said to be impossible to escape from.

Jyugo, who has the number 1311 tattooed on his neck, wakes up in his cell and immediately tries to escape, but is stopped by his guard, a stern and somewhat sadistic man named Hajime Sugoroku. Jyugo claims that he wants to escape because he is bored, but Hajime doesn't believe him and warns him that attempting to escape will only result in more punishment.

Meanwhile, Uno, Rock, and Nico are hanging out in their cell, trying to figure out a way to escape. They are joined by Jyugo, who has managed to sneak in undetected. The four of them quickly become friends, bonding over their shared desire to break out of prison.

Their escape plans are momentarily interrupted when they are taken to the cafeteria for breakfast. We get a glimpse of the other inmates, including a giant man who can barely fit through the door and a prisoner who seems to be half man, half machine. We also meet the warden, a flamboyant and eccentric man named Momoko Hyakushiki, who seems to enjoy teasing the prisoners.

Back in their cell, Jyugo reveals that he has a secret ability: he can manipulate his own body, allowing him to become intangible or stretch his limbs to incredible lengths. The others are amazed by this revelation and excitedly suggest using Jyugo's ability to aid in their escape.

Their first attempt at breaking out is unsuccessful, and they are quickly caught by Hajime. Jyugo is put into solitary confinement as punishment, but the others refuse to leave him alone and hatch a plan to rescue him.

Eventually, they succeed in freeing Jyugo, but are once again caught by Hajime. However, the group manages to prove their loyalty to each other and their determination to escape, which impresses Momoko. He decides to give them a chance by allowing them to participate in a special event called the New Year's Tournament, where inmates from different cell blocks compete against each other in various challenges.

The episode ends with the promise of more action and adventure to come as the four friends prepare for the tournament and plan their eventual escape from Nanba Prison.
