Dr. Kenzo Tenma continues his journey towards Freiham in the 20th episode of Naoki Urasawa's Monster season 1. After helping a young girl find her way home, Tenma hitchhikes a ride with a truck driver who drops him off outside of town. As he walks towards his destination, he comes across a young woman named Eva Heinemann who is also on her way to Freiham.

Eva is the daughter of a wealthy industrialist who is attending a business conference in Freiham. She is unhappy with her father's controlling ways and hopes to find some solace in the small town. Along the way, Tenma and Eva discuss their respective journeys and their past experiences. Tenma opens up about his tragic past while Eva reveals some of the struggles she's faced with her family.

As they arrive in Freiham, they discover the town is bustling with activity due to a festival that is taking place. Eva suggests they take a break and enjoy the festivities, which include street performances, food vendors, and games. Tenma reluctantly agrees and they both take part in the festivities.

While walking through the town, they come across a stand selling handmade goods. The elderly couple running the stall invites Tenma and Eva to sit with them and enjoy some tea. As they chat, the couple reveals that they are actually former spies who have retired to live a quiet life in Freiham. They tell Tenma and Eva a harrowing tale of their past experiences and how they were able to leave their dangerous world behind to settle down in the small town.

Tenma and Eva continue to explore the town, appreciating the simple and peaceful way of life that the residents of Freiham seem to enjoy. As the night progresses, they come across a group of local teenagers who invite them to a bonfire party. Despite Tenma's reluctance, Eva convinces him to join in and the two of them spend the night enjoying the company of the locals.

As the night comes to an end, Tenma and Eva part ways, each feeling grateful for the experience they shared. Tenma feels reinvigorated after interacting with the people of Freiham and is looking forward to continuing on his journey. Eva feels like she's finally found a place where she belongs and hopes to return to Freiham again soon.
