Ep 1. Pilot

Naomi is an American television series that premiered on January 11, 2022, on The CW network. The show is based on the comic book series of the same name. Created by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, the series follows a teenage girl named Naomi who investigates the mysterious disappearance of a superhero from her hometown.

In the pilot episode, we are introduced to Naomi, played by Kaci Walfall, a high school student living in a small Pacific Northwest town called Port Oswego. We learn that Naomi was adopted by an interracial couple, her parents' memories and stories of her birth parents. She is fascinated with superheroes and has a particular interest in the local hero named Superman.

One day, while out jogging, Naomi witnesses a strange event in the sky, which she initially mistakes for a meteor crashing to Earth. However, the object is revealed to be a superhero battling with another figure, and the two figures disappear into thin air. Naomi tries to tell her best friend Annabelle, played by Mary-Charles Jones, about what she saw, but Annabelle does not believe her.

At school, we learn more about Naomi's life, including how she is often teased for being adopted. Along with the support of her parents, Naomi navigates through high school as a biracial adopted child. However, she is constantly curious about her origins and identity. The mystery of the superhero from the strange event she witnessed only adds more weight to her curiosity.

Naomi's obsession with the superhero leads her to confront a local journalist, Dee Perkins, played by Alexander Wraith, who is investigating the same disappearance. Perkins is ruthless and shows little interest in Naomi's theories or her interest in the story. The encounter leaves Naomi feeling discouraged and more determined to uncover the truth about the disappearance of the hero.

Throughout the pilot episode, Naomi's curiosity drives her to dig deeper into the superhero's disappearance. She attends a comic book convention in Portland to learn more about the superhero world, where she has an encounter with the hero Aquaman. She also visits a science lab in a nearby town to find answers and meets with a scientist who seeks to decode the scientific side of the superhero world.

The pilot episode sets up the premise of the series. We see Naomi's obsession with superheroes and her determination to uncover the truth about the events she witnessed. She seeks to understand the superhero world and the heroes behind it. At the same time, her search for answers leads her to learn more about her own identity, and she begins to question what it means to be a hero.

Naomi season 1 episode 1, titled "Pilot," is a great introduction to the series. The episode gives us a glimpse into the world of superheroes and lays out the groundwork for Naomi's mysterious backstory. With excellent performances from the cast and strong writing, the episode effectively captures the audience's attention and leaves them eager for what is to come next.
