After tragically losing his wife to cancer, John West (played by William Baldwin) uproots his three kids and moves from Boston to his hometown of Turtle Island Bay to start over. As a search and rescue commander, John finds solace in his work and the natural beauty of his new home. But as he helps others, he realizes he still has a lot of personal healing to do.

In episode 6, John faces a new challenge when his daughter Maddie (Amalia Williamson) has a run-in with a group of mean girls at school. Maddie is distraught when the girls spread rumors about her and she finds herself ostracized by her classmates. John tries to console her, but is at a loss for what to do.

Meanwhile, John's son Scout (Spencer MacPherson) is back in Boston, but is struggling to fit in at college. He's been spending a lot of time playing video games and not attending his classes. As the episode progresses, John tries to make things right for Maddie by confronting the mean girls and setting the record straight. Meanwhile, Scout's situation goes from bad to worse when he's caught plagiarizing a paper. He's given a chance to make it up, but it's clear that he needs to take a step back and reevaluate his priorities.

In the end, John and Maddie have a heart-to-heart and John opens up about how he's still struggling with his own grief. Maddie realizes that it's okay to ask for help and the two of them share a touching moment. Scout also decides to take a break from school and focus on getting his life back on track. And Charlie takes a chance on Liam and lets herself be vulnerable.
