Set in the small town of Turtle Island Bay, Northern Rescue follows the life of John West (William Baldwin), a search and rescue commander who is dealing with the sudden death of his wife, Sarah. With three children to take care of, John moves his family from the big city to his hometown to start anew.
The show begins with the family relocating to Turtle Island Bay and adjusting to their new life. While John faces the challenges of balancing his work and taking care of his children, his oldest daughter, Maddie (Amalia Williamson), struggles to fit in at her new school. She finds herself at odds with the popular girls and has trouble making friends.
Meanwhile, John's sister, Charlotte (Kathleen Robertson), returns home after a long absence. She is dealing with her own personal issues and provides a different perspective to the family dynamic. Charlotte is a therapist and quickly becomes a valuable asset in helping the family through their grief.
As the season progresses, John and his team are called upon to rescue a number of individuals who are in danger, including those trapped in a dangerous cave system and a group of stranded hikers. John's team also works closely with local law enforcement to solve crimes plaguing the small town.
The family dynamic is a key feature of the show, and Northern Rescue does an excellent job of exploring the relationship between John and his children. There are a number of heartwarming moments throughout the show as John does everything he can to ensure his children are happy and healthy. The show highlights the various challenges that come with being a single parent, as John faces financial difficulties, his own grief, and navigating his new role as a father.

The cinematography in the show is stunning, with wide shots of the beautiful Canadian wilderness highlighting the natural beauty of the area. The score is also exceptional, capturing the emotional tone of each scene perfectly.
