Oasis is a science fiction drama series created by Matt Charman for Amazon Studios. The show explores the intriguing possibility of a new frontier for humanity in the cosmos, blending elements of the past, present, and future to create a compelling narrative that on the surface feels like a contemporary period piece, but with a modern twist.

Set in the not-too-distant future, the show introduces us to a world where Earth is facing an environmental catastrophe, and the human race must find new resources and new worlds to explore if it wants to avoid extinction. In this context, we are introduced to the Oasis, a colony on a distant planet called the New Earth, which has been established to enable human civilization to prosper and survive.

The story revolves around Richard Madden's character, Peter Leigh, who is a former Episcopal priest who has lost his faith in God and the Church after his wife's tragic death. When he is approached by the CEO of the USIC corporation, Anil Kapoor's character, Vikram Danesh, to become the new chaplain of the Oasis, he is initially hesitant but ultimately decides to take the job as a chance to begin a new life and make a difference.

As he is transported to the Oasis, we are introduced to a unique culture that has developed on this new planet, as well as some of the people who populate it, like Antje Traue's character, a community leader named Lukrum. The show explores themes of human identity, religious faith, the meaning of life, and the ultimate fate of humanity.

The Oasis is a complex and fascinating world, and the show delves deep into its many mysteries. We learn about strange creatures that inhabit the planet, the unique flora and fauna that exist there, and the enigmatic artifacts left behind by a strange and ancient civilization that apparently once inhabited New Earth.

As Peter tries to settle into his new role as chaplain of the Oasis, he is challenged by many obstacles, both internal and external. Internally, he must confront his own lack of faith and try to reconcile his personal beliefs with the new realities he encounters on this strange new world. Externally, he must navigate the political, social, and cultural complexities of this new society and learn to work with its leaders and inhabitants.

The show is a compelling character drama, anchored by Richard Madden's excellent performance as Peter Leigh, a flawed and complex character who grapples with his beliefs and struggles to find his place in this new world. The supporting cast is also excellent, with Anil Kapoor bringing a significant gravitas to the role of Vikram Danesh and Antje Traue delivering a mesmerizing performance as Lukrum.

The show's production values are top-notch, with impressive visual effects, a thrilling soundtrack, and excellent cinematography. The world-building is intricate and meticulous, with every detail carefully thought out and realized on screen. The show manages to be simultaneously thought-provoking, exciting, and emotionally resonant, drawing the viewer into its rich universe and inviting them to explore its many mysteries.

Overall, Oasis is an excellent science fiction series that explores fascinating themes and ponders some of humanity's most profound questions. With an outstanding cast, strong writing, and impressive production values, it is a must-watch for fans of the genre and anyone looking for a captivating and thought-provoking drama series.
