Ep 23. Tauranga: Kiwi Country

Tauranga is known as the Kiwi fruit capital of the world. In this episode of Ocean Treks with Jeff Corwin, Jeff travels to Tauranga, New Zealand, to explore the land of the Kiwi fruit and learn more about the culture and environment.

Jeff starts his journey by visiting a Kiwi fruit farm to learn about the growing process, harvesting, and packaging of the Kiwi fruit. He then travels to a nearby aviary to meet some of the native bird species of New Zealand, including the Kiwi bird. Jeff learns about conservation efforts to protect these endangered birds and their habitat.

Next, Jeff heads to the Tauranga Harbor to meet with a local fisherman who takes him on a fishing expedition. Jeff learns about sustainable fishing practices and the importance of maintaining healthy and diverse marine ecosystems. Jeff then sets off on a hike to the top of Mount Mauao, a sacred mountain to the Maori people. At the top of the mountain, Jeff is treated to breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape.

Finally, Jeff meets a local chef who teaches him how to make a traditional Maori dish using Kiwi fruit. Jeff gets a taste of the local cuisine and learns about the importance of using fresh, local ingredients.
