In Oddities season 1 episode 7, titled Pickled Pig, the Obscura Antiques team is faced with an unusual challenge - finding a buyer for a rare item that few people would want in their homes - a pickled pig.

The episode opens with co-owner Mike Zohn and buyer Evan Michelson examining the bizarre specimen in question, which is housed in a large glass jar filled with an amber-colored preservative. The pickled pig, they explain, was likely created in the early 20th century as a curiosity for display in a sideshow or carnival. The pig, which is missing its ears and tail, is eerily preserved in the jar, with its hooves and snout sticking out from the amber liquid.

Despite its morbid appearance, Mike and Evan are convinced that the pickled pig has value as a collector's item for someone interested in sideshow history or oddities. Their challenge, however, is finding the right buyer who is willing to pay a fair price for the item. They decide to take the jar to the Coney Island sideshow, a New York institution that has been showcasing human oddities and animal acts since the 19th century.

At the sideshow, Mike and Evan meet with Adam "The First Real Mermaid" and Eak the Geek, two performers who are part of the Coney Island Freak Show. They show them the pickled pig and explain its history and rarity, hoping to drum up interest among the performers and the crowd. At first, the sideshow performers seem more interested in their own strange acts than in the pickled pig, but Evan and Mike persist in their efforts to find a buyer.

Their persistence pays off when they meet Denny Daniel, a self-described "historian of weird stuff" who runs the Museum of Interesting Things. Denny is fascinated by the pickled pig and agrees to buy it for his museum, which showcases oddities and curiosities from throughout history. Mike and Evan are thrilled to have found a buyer for the item and happily hand it over to Denny, who promises to give it a place of honor among his collection.

In addition to the pickled pig, the episode also features a rare 19th-century adjustable wheelchair owned by a wealthy woman with a disability, a pair of prosthetic legs created for a 19th-century veteran of the Civil War, and a giant, carnivorous plant that is the pride and joy of Obscura Antiques' resident botanist.

Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to a glimpse into the quirky, fascinating world of strange and unusual objects, as well as the people who collect them. The show's hosts and their guests share stories and tidbits of information about each item, providing a fascinating insight into the history and significance of these objects. The show also showcases the challenges and rewards of buying and selling oddities in a market that can be as quirky and unpredictable as the objects themselves. Overall, Pickled Pig is a must-watch episode for fans of Oddities and anyone interested in the weird and wonderful world of strange and unusual objects.
