LIDIA CELEBRATES AMERICA: Freedom and Independence, the tenth episode of season 3 of PBS Specials, is an emotional exploration of the concept of freedom and independence through the unique lens of Lidia Bastianich, an Italian-American chef, author, and television host. In this inspiring special, Lidia travels across the United States to meet immigrants and their descendants who have contributed to the country's rich cultural fabric and celebrates their stories of freedom and independence.

The episode begins with Lidia visiting Ellis Island, the symbol of America's immigration history. As she explores the island, Lidia is moved by the stories of immigrants who left everything behind and came to America in search of a better life. With tears in her eyes, she reflects on her own family's journey to America and how grateful she is for the opportunities that this country has given her.

From there, Lidia travels to New York City, where she meets with a group of Ukrainian immigrants who are preserving their culture through traditional songs and dances. Lidia joins in the celebrations and is fascinated by the deep sense of community that these immigrants have created.

Next, Lidia heads to Arizona to meet with members of the Tohono O'Odham Nation, a Native American tribe that has fought for centuries to maintain their freedom and independence. Through sharing traditional tribal dances and songs, Lidia learns about the tribe's history and struggles, and gains a new appreciation for the importance of preserving one's culture and traditions.

Lidia then visits San Francisco to meet with Chinese immigrants and their descendants who have made significant contributions to America's economy and society. She learns about the Chinese Exclusion Act, which was passed in 1882 to ban Chinese immigrants from coming to America, and how Chinese-Americans have persevered in the face of discrimination and prejudice.

Finally, Lidia travels to Charleston, South Carolina, where she explores the Gullah Geechee culture, a unique African-American culture that has been preserved through generations. She joins in the celebrations of Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in America, and learns about the importance of continuing to fight for freedom and independence for all.

Throughout the episode, Lidia shares her own personal experiences as an immigrant and emphasizes the importance of celebrating and preserving our individual cultures and traditions. Her message of unity and acceptance is especially poignant in today's divisive political climate, and serves as a reminder that America's strength lies in its diversity and the contributions of all its citizens.

Overall, LIDIA CELEBRATES AMERICA: Freedom and Independence is a powerful and heartwarming special that pays tribute to the spirit of freedom and independence that has defined America throughout its history. With its emotional storytelling and beautiful visuals, it is a must-see for anyone who believes in the American dream.
