Ep 5. Above the Vaulted Sky

Ethan Chandler is seen running through the wilderness during the night. He is fighting against some mysterious force inside him that is causing him pain. He makes his way to the Order of the Dragon's mansion where he roams around a bit before he is discovered by a servant. Sir Geoffrey Hawkes arrives and takes him to his quarters.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Ives, Sir Malcolm, and Sembene discuss their next move to locate Mina. Vanessa suggests that they visit Joan Clayton, better known as the Cut-Wife, who has knowledge of darkness and witchcraft. Sir Malcolm is hesitant as he has a bad history with Joan. However, they decide to go ahead with the plan.

Upon arriving at Joan's residence, they meet her and Vanessa is shocked to find out that she's her grandmother. Joan tells them that they must make a sacrifice to inquire about Mina's whereabouts. This sacrifice involves cutting Vanessa's hand and letting her blood drip over a map of London. Adamant about finding Mina, Vanessa agrees to it, and as soon as she makes the sacrifice, she has a vision of Sir Malcolm's former wife, Gladys.

Meanwhile, Dorian Gray is seen having a dinner party with some elite guests. Among them is Angelique, an opera singer, who captivates Dorian's attention. They share a moment, which is interrupted by a man named Rudyard, who informs Dorian that Angelique is a man, and he is her former lover. Dorian is taken aback but decides to invite Angelique for a walk in the garden. As they walk, Angelique tells Dorian about her life and her dreams. Despite knowing the truth about Angelique, Dorian seems smitten by her.

Back at the Order of the Dragon's mansion, Ethan wakes up to find Sir Geoffrey sitting by his bed and writing something. Sir Geoffrey tells Ethan that he's writing a confession and that he's been killing the members of his family. Ethan is shocked and perplexed and refuses to believe it. Sir Geoffrey then shows him a piece of paper with Ethan's signature, confessing to the murders. Ethan has no recollection of it, and Sir Geoffrey tells him that Ethan is a werewolf and that he's been killing people on the night of the full moon.

In the meantime, Vanessa and Sir Malcolm meet with Gladys' sister, who tells them that Gladys had some unusual habits that involved an Egyptian antiquity dealer. She takes them to the dealer's shop, and they find out that he's in possession of the Verbis Diablo, a book that can summon spirits. They buy the book, and upon returning to Joan's residence, Vanessa tries to summon Mina's spirit but fails.

On the other hand, Dorian and Angelique share an intimate moment, and Dorian kisses her. Angelique tells him that she's in love with him, and Dorian reciprocates the same feeling. The two of them make love, and Dorian is seen happy and satisfied.

As the episode comes to a close, Vanessa sits alone and performs a ritual with the Verbis Diablo. As she completes the ritual, she hears a knock on the door, and upon opening it, she sees an unexpected visitor.
