Please Like Me is an Australian television series that follows the life of Josh, a young man living in Melbourne, as he navigates his family, friends, and love life. Season 4 Episode 2, titled "Porridge," carries on from where the first episode left off, as Josh and Arnold grieve over the death of their friend, Alan.

The episode opens with Josh and Arnold waiting in line at a café for brunch. Josh is visibly upset, and Arnold tries to comfort him by telling him he needs to "feel the feelings." They sit down at a table outside, and Josh begins to cry, telling Arnold that he's "just sad" and that he "shouldn't have to feel it all." Arnold tries to console him, but Josh pushes him away, telling him he has to go to work.

Meanwhile, Tom and Ella are having breakfast at Josh's house. Tom tells her about the awkwardness of dating after coming out of a long-term relationship, and they discuss the possibility of getting back together. Ella tells Tom she's thinking of going to Japan to study, and Tom reacts badly, telling her that he doesn't want her to go and breaks up with her.

Josh goes over to Claire's house to get her to help him make porridge, as Alan used to do it for them. Claire is sympathetic, but tells Josh that he needs to let go of his grief and move on. They talk about Alan, and Claire tells Josh that he was the "kindest" person she knew.

While Josh is making porridge, Arnold turns up at the house, and they have an awkward conversation. Josh tells Arnold that he doesn't want to talk about Alan anymore, and Arnold leaves.

Back at the café, Josh runs into Tristan, a guy he went on a date with once. They have an uncomfortable conversation, and Tristan tells Josh that he's seeing someone else. Josh tells him that he's glad he's found someone, and leaves.

Tom goes to see Ella at her house and tells her that he overreacted. She tells him she's still going to Japan, and they agree to try and make their relationship work long distance. Josh visits Arnold's work and they have another awkward conversation. Josh apologizes for pushing him away and opens up about how hard he's finding it to deal with Alan's death. Arnold listens and comforts him.

Later, Josh is back at Claire's house, and they make porridge again. This time, they talk about their friendship and how they've been there for each other through everything. Claire tells Josh that she loves him, and he responds by saying the same. They hug, but are interrupted by Claire's phone ringing.

The episode ends with Josh alone in the kitchen, still making porridge. He takes a spoonful, but can't eat it. He cries.

Overall, "Porridge" is a deeply emotional episode that deals with grief and loss. Josh's struggle to come to terms with Alan's death is the central theme of the episode, and the way the other characters react to and support him is touching. It's a masterclass in how to portray raw emotions on screen, and it's a testament to the show's incredible writing and acting.
