Queens of Mystery is a British crime drama series that premiered on Acorn TV in 2019. The show stars different sets of actresses playing different versions of the same family over time. Julie Graham stars as a detective named Matilda Stone who also happens to be a mystery book author, and Rebecca Grant plays her younger sister. The show follows these two sisters along their journey to solve bizarre crimes and murders along with their very interesting family.

The show is set in a charming, fictional town known as Wildemarsh, where Matilda Stone is summoned to investigate a murder that has taken place in the small community. Something that is distinctive about Queens of Mystery is that the murder took place during a performance at a local theater, and the victim was a lead actress. The murder rattles the community and its oddball family members.

In the midst of the investigation, Matilda meets her three aunts, specifically Beth (Sarah Woodward), she stumbles upon three of her aunts comprising her family and learns that the Stone family has a history with the local police department. This is where the story gets even more interesting.

The family members have a strong bond, and their interactions are filled with sharp humor and love. Each of them is incredibly quirky in their own way, including Matilda's mother, who was a former radio DJ and enjoys playing 'mystery' music in the background of her daughter's investigation headquarters. Their chief mystery always involves getting to the bottom of their loved one's murder.

What is remarkable about Queens of Mystery is that each of the seasons has a unique murder mystery to solve, all while they shed light on Matilda's family history. Each season is self-contained and tells a different story about Matilda's family, with continuous mentions and character development from previous seasons added.

Another significant aspect of the show is its writing. The script is smart and laced with interesting twists and turns, making it interesting from start to finish. It's a classic whodunit formula, but with a unique twist of Matilda's family, their history, and the various fictional characters that they meet every season.

Overall, Queens of Mystery is a delightful crime drama that is a mix of British humor, unique storytelling, superb acting, and well-crafted writing. It is a remarkable show that is sure to provide viewers with non-stop entertainment, as well as a complex plot that will keep them on the edge of their seats. It is undoubtedly a must-watch for fans of mystery shows, with its delightful spin on detective dramas.

Queens of Mystery is a series that is currently running and has 2 seasons (13 episodes). The series first aired on April 8, 2019.
