In this episode of RahXephon season 1, entitled "Watch the year hand," we are introduced to a new character named Quon Kisaragi. She is an enigmatic girl who seems to have some kind of connection to the RahXephon and its pilot, Ayato Kamina.
We learn that Quon is a musician who plays an instrument called the haruka, which has a powerful effect on the mood and emotions of those who hear it. She is constantly followed around by a group of fans who are obsessed with her music, and in the beginning of the episode she is harassed by them while trying to get to school.
Meanwhile, Ayato is struggling with his role as the pilot of the RahXephon. He is still coming to terms with the fact that he is from a parallel world and is not actually a part of the society he has been living in. This feeling of isolation is compounded by the fact that he is the only person who can pilot the RahXephon, and he often feels like he is in over his head.
Things come to a head when Ayato and his friend Hiroko Asahina are attacked by a group of Dolem, the mysterious creatures that have been attacking the city. Ayato is able to activate the RahXephon and defeat the Dolem, but during the battle he begins to lose control of his emotions and ends up endangering Hiroko.
After the battle, Ayato is taken to a hospital where he meets Quon for the first time. She is there to perform for the patients, and when she plays her haruka Ayato is overwhelmed with emotion. Quon tells him that his feelings are not a weakness and encourages him to embrace them.
The episode ends with Ayato questioning his place in the world and his role as the pilot of the RahXephon. He realizes that he has been ignoring his own emotions and fears, and that this has been holding him back from fully embracing his power as a pilot. With Quon's words ringing in his ears, Ayato resolves to face his fears and become a better pilot.
Overall, this episode of RahXephon explores themes of isolation, self-discovery, and the power of music and emotion. It introduces a new character in Quon who will surely play a bigger role in the story going forward, and sets the stage for Ayato's continued development as a character. Fans of the series will no doubt be excited to see where the story goes from here.
