Ep 5. Get Even Before Leavin'

In "Get Even Before Leavin'," the fifth episode of Ray Donovan's fourth season, the drama surrounding Donovan and his family continues. The episode begins with a flashback to 1986, where young Ray is getting beaten up by a group of bullies. However, his older brother Terry comes to his rescue and beats the bullies, showing the bond between the two brothers.

Back in the present day, Ray is still dealing with his father's death and his brother Bunchy's struggles. Bunchy is still upset over losing his daughter Maria, and he's trying to seek revenge by kidnapping the Russian man who killed her. Ray and Terry try to intervene, but things quickly spiral out of control.

Meanwhile, Ray's wife Abby is struggling with her cancer diagnosis and trying to find a way to cope with it. She starts smoking medical marijuana to help with her pain, but it only leads to her becoming more paranoid and doubtful of Ray's loyalty.

As if Ray didn't have enough on his plate, he's also dealing with the repercussions of the blackmail scheme he got involved with. The FBI is now involved and Agent Barnes is hot on his trail. Ray meets her in a diner to try and clear his name, but Barnes seems to see through his lies.

As the episode comes to a close, tensions are high and it's unclear how things will resolve for the Donovan family. Will Bunchy's vengeance get the best of him? Will Abby find a way to cope with her diagnosis? And will Ray be able to escape the FBI's investigation? "Get Even Before Leavin'" sets up the rest of the season for what is sure to be an intense ride.
