After his crash landing on Earth, extraterrestrial alien Harry has disguised himself as a human doctor in the remote town of Patience, Colorado. Apart from his astoundingly un-human reactions, Harry has managed to maintain his cover up so far. In episode 2, we see Harry struggling with the idea of staying on Earth for an extended period and continuing his pacekeeper mission. This internal conflict is further wooed by the arrival of his extraterrestrial device which reminds him of his duty towards his race and the mission he must finish. On the other hand, Harry is getting uncomfortably involved with the human race. He starts to form relationships with the people he interacts with and even starts to develop a liking for the town- something he never expected. Soon after, Harry is faced with a strange case of a car accident victim who refuses medical intervention and demands to be taken to see a healer. The non-medical approach causes frustration for Harry, who comes from a society where science is extremely advanced and rules over superstitions. Harry's housebound condition adds to his misunderstanding of the human condition. He becomes intrigued by the notion of distraction and begins binge-watching the ‘Law and Order’ series. His obsession with the series, coupled with the arrival of a house guest causes him more trouble. His landlady, Asta, the only one to know of his real identity, invites her friend and colleague (who happens to be the same investigating officer on the car accident case) to stay with the two, giving Harry major trust issues. As Harry comes to terms with his obsession for his favourite TV show and the arrival of another human who he can’t help but observe and study every moment, he receives a letter which again reminds him of his real duties as an alien. The letter urges him to complete his task and not let the humans distract him from his mission. Harry, who has formed some form of human affection, is confused about the true intentions of his race and his duty towards Earth. The episode is highly character-driven, allowing us to understand Harry more thoroughly. It takes us through his mental process and the different emotions going on inside him. His constant struggle between duty towards the alien race and his newfound relationships help to add more humanity and depth to his character. The show does a great job of balancing out comedy, drama, and sci-fi elements seamlessly, keeping the viewer invested throughout. Overall, Homesick is an excellently written and executed episode that builds on the groundwork laid out in the Pilot. It explores Harry's character more intimately, setting up for a more extended storyline while keeping the viewer engaged and entertained.
