The Dresden Files
- 1 Season
This television series is an adaptation of the urban fantasy books by Jim Butcher, and tells the story of the only wizard for hire living in Chicago. The show opens with Harry Dresden, played by Paul Blackthorne, living in an apartment/business/secret magic lab with the ancient spirit Bob, played by Terrence Mann. He plies his wizarding trade and ekes out his existence by taking on cases involving supernatural crimes. Harry often comes into contact with police Lieutenant Connie Murphy, played by Valerie Cruz, to assist her in solving cases that are difficult due to the supernatural component. The White Council keeps a close eye on Harry. If they think Harry is crossing the line into black magic, Warden Donald Morgan, played by Conrad Coates, shows up to keep him in line. The series is a narrative by Harry as he takes us through supernatural events that surround his life. Battling evil wizards, coming into conflict with the White Counsel, fighting werewolves, dragons, skin walkers, negotiating with vampires, or dealing with mercenary ravens, is just part of the usual daily grind for Harry. Harry is an unwilling hero with a past. As the series progresses, we learn that Harry was the heir to a fortune, the lifestyle that went with it, and that he killed his Uncle, the evil wizard Justin Morningway, played by Daniel Kash. Harry refuses to live in the mansion he still owns, gave the money away, and finds that his Uncle may not be as dead as first reported. The rights were optioned in 2005 by the SciFi Channel and first aired in January 2007. Lionsgate Television and Saturn Films produced the 12 part series. The screenplay was by Hans Beimler and Robert Hewitt Wolfe. The cast also included Raoul Bhaneja playing police Detective Sid Kirmani, Matt Gordon in the part of M.E. Waldo Butters, Joanne Kelly as the vampire Bianca, Natalie Liniska playing Laura Ellis, and Elizabeth Thai and Jane McLean playing Ancient Mai.
