In Rocket City Rednecks season 1 episode 2, titled "Junkyard Iron Man / 20,000 Kegs Under the Sea," the group of redneck geniuses from Alabama take on two ambitious projects.
First, the Rocket City Rednecks are challenged to build a suit of armor similar to Iron Man's out of scrap metal that they can find in a junkyard. To accomplish this, the team takes apart an old dumpster and a car hood to create the body of the suit. They also use various pipes, bolts, and other parts to construct the arms, legs, and helmet. The team faces several obstacles during the build, including trouble with the hydraulic system and difficulty finding the right engine to power the suit.
In addition to building the Junkyard Iron Man suit, the team also attempts to create a device that can retrieve beer kegs from the bottom of a lake. They call the project "20,000 Kegs Under the Sea" and put their engineering skills to work in designing a submersible robot. They create a prototype out of PVC pipes, a soda bottle, and a car battery. The robot is equipped with cameras and a claw arm to pick up the beer kegs. However, the team struggles to control the robot once it is in the water. They have to improvise with some duct tape and zip ties to make adjustments to the design, but eventually, they are able to retrieve some kegs from the lake.
Throughout the episode, the Rocket City Rednecks showcase their ingenuity, resourcefulness, and ability to think outside the box when it comes to engineering and building projects. They approach each challenge with a combination of humor and determination, never giving up until they succeed. Viewers get a glimpse into the lives of these unconventional and often underestimated individuals, who prove that a 'redneck' can be a genius too.
