The Realness, the ninth episode of RuPaul's Drag Race season 8, sees the remaining queens face one of the most challenging tasks of the competition yet: to perform a live, unscripted talk show. The queens are split into three teams and must come up with show concepts, write their own scripts, and perform in front of a live audience.
As the teams work to create their talk show concepts, tensions rise between some of the queens. Acid Betty struggles to work with her team members and becomes increasingly frustrated with their lack of cohesion. Kim Chi also struggles with her team's dynamics, feeling like she's not being heard by her fellow queens.
On the day of the challenge, the queens must not only perform their talk shows but also answer tough questions from a panel of celebrity judges, including comedian and host Nicole Byer and Canadian TV personality Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.
Some of the talk show concepts include a morning show hosted by Bob the Drag Queen, Derrick Barry, and Naomi Smalls, a fashion show hosted by Kim Chi and Chi Chi DeVayne, and a political show hosted by Acid Betty, Thorgy Thor, and Robbie Turner.
During the performances, some queens shine while others struggle. Bob the Drag Queen proves to be a natural at hosting and earns praise from the judges. Kim Chi performs a hilarious stand-up routine but struggles to stay in character during the rest of her team's talk show. Acid Betty's team's political show falls flat, with the judges criticizing their lack of focus.
After the performances, the judges have a tough job of deciding who will be in the bottom two and who will be safe. One queen is praised for her performance and is named the winner of the challenge, while another queen is criticized for her lackluster performance and lands in the bottom two.
The bottom two queens must then lip sync for their lives to stay in the competition. The stakes are high as only a few challenges remain before the crowning of America's Next Drag Superstar.
The Realness provides an exciting and dramatic episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, testing the queens' ability to think on their feet, work in a team, and perform in front of a live audience. With the competition heating up and tensions rising between some of the queens, viewers are left on the edge of their seats as they wait to see who will be the final queen standing.
