On the other hand, reporter Amanda is investigating the biggest scoop of her life: the existence of the asteroid that could wipe out humankind. However, her editor does not believe the story and wants her to drop it. Amanda being the determined reporter she is, decides to dig deeper and follows a lead that takes her to a remote observatory. There she meets Dr. Malcolm Croft, an astronomer who confirms everything Amanda has been suspecting. He also tells her that he discovered the asteroid over a year ago, but his warnings have been ignored.

As Liam and Darius navigate the dangerous and corrupt world of Russian diamond mines, their mission suffers a setback. They discover that the owner of the mine they seek controlling the rare element they need, is a ruthless, self-serving man who is unwilling to cooperate. Meanwhile, back in Washington, the cabinet members, who are divided on how to handle the asteroid situation, attend a meeting with the president to discuss the looming disaster.

In the latter part of the episode, Darius and Liam are captured by the Russian mafia while trying to leave the mine with the rare element. They are held hostage until they reveal how valuable the element they took is. They eventually escape and make it back to the US with the valuable element, barely escaping with their lives. Amanda, who had been keeping in touch with Liam, excitedly greets them at the airport and helps them to deliver the element to the US Air Force. The episode ends with Liam and Darius encouraged by their progress and energized for the next step of their plan.

Overall, Salvation Season 1 Episode 2: "Another Trip Around the Sun" is full of action, suspense, and drama. The plot draws the viewer in with its intriguing premise, well-crafted characters, and a well-written script. The episode does a great job of introducing new characters and further enriching the show's existing cast.
