Ep 1. Schmigadoon!

Schmigadoon! tells the story of a couple, Melissa and Josh, who embark on a backpacking trip to work on their relationship. As their trip nears its end, they stumble upon a magical town called Schmigadoon, a place seemingly stuck in a Golden Age musical. Melissa and Josh find themselves unable to leave the town until they find true love.

In the pilot episode titled "Schmigadoon!," Melissa and Josh have been on their trip for a while, and they are fighting more than ever. While they argue about their relationship, they stumble upon a bridge that leads them to Schmigadoon. They are initially confused by the town's old-fashioned appearance and the locals' musical numbers. When they try to leave, they find they cannot because the bridge that brought them there has vanished.

Detached from reality, the couple decides to explore the town. They quickly discover that the residents are living in a world where everyone is either engaged or married. A woman named Betsy tells Melissa and Josh that they cannot leave the town unless they find true love, and the only way to do that is by falling into a song and dance routine. Melissa and Josh are shocked by the absurdity of this, but as they walk around Schmigadoon, they find it hard not to get swept up in its charm.

Melissa and Josh meet Mayor Menlove and his wife Mildred and soon learn that the town is celebrating the annual Harvest Festival. Melissa is impressed by how talented the residents of Schmigadoon are, and Josh is wary of the town's sweetness. Melissa is ecstatic, whereas Josh's only desire is to leave. As they tour the town, they stumble upon the schoolhouse, where a teacher named Emma teaches children to prepare for married life. Melissa and Josh witness a song and dance routine, and things get even more complicated when Emma takes an interest in Josh.

As they continue to explore the town, Melissa and Josh start to fall for each other all over again. They find themselves involved in Schmigadoon's musical numbers more frequently, and despite Josh's resistance, he begins to enjoy it too. They sing and dance alongside townspeople, and Josh is amazed by Melissa's talent. Along the way, they meet many interesting characters, including the town's sexually charged doctor, and a lovelorn farmer who is in love with Mildred, the mayor's wife.

The episode ends with Melissa and Josh on a date, where they bond over their love for musicals, and Josh admits he always felt jealous of Melissa's talent. They share a romantic dance together under the stars, and their connection grows stronger. However, their newfound happiness is short-lived when they are interrupted by Emma, who proclaims her love for Josh and begs him to choose her over his girlfriend.

"Schmigadoon!" is a charming and witty show that parodies the tropes of classic musicals. The first episode successfully sets up the series' premise and introduces us to the delightful residents of Schmigadoon. The performances are spectacular, and the musical numbers are excellently choreographed. The pilot episode sets the stage for a romantic and humorous adventure that will leave viewers enthralled and excited to see what's next for Melissa and Josh in Schmigadoon.
