As soon as Aoi Miyamori, the protagonist of SHIROBAKO, wakes up, she realizes she's overslept. She rushes to get ready and heads to work. Aoi works at an animation studio named Musashino Animation, where she's a production assistant. Her job is to do whatever needs to be done in order to keep the project moving forward.
In the previous episode, Aoi and her friends had graduated from high school. Aoi had told her friends that she wanted to work in the anime industry, and now, she's finally achieved her dream. SHIROBAKO is a show about the anime industry, and in this episode, we get a glimpse of how that industry functions.
On her way to work, Aoi runs into her old classmate, Ema Yasuhara, who also works at Musashino Animation. Aoi and Ema chat on the train, and Ema tells Aoi that she's now working as an animation assistant. This is Ema's dream job, and she's excited to finally be working in the industry.
When Aoi arrives at work, she's immediately put to work. She's given a list of tasks that need to be completed, and she starts working on them right away. Her first task is to check the storyboard for their upcoming anime series, Third Aerial Girls Squad.
Aoi is joined by her boss, Seiichi Kinoshita, who is the head of production at Musashino Animation. He gives her a quick overview of what they're working on and shows her some concept art for the characters. Aoi is excited to be working on such a great project and is eager to get started.
Aoi is then tasked with contacting a voice actress named Yuka Okitsu, who will be playing one of the characters in Third Aerial Girls Squad. Aoi is nervous about calling Yuka, but she manages to get through to her. Yuka is excited to be working on the project and agrees to come in for a recording session.
Aoi's next job is to coordinate a meeting between the director, Masahiro Okura, and the writers. The writers have come up with some ideas for the plot of the series, and they need to discuss them with the director. Aoi sets up the meeting and makes sure everything runs smoothly.
Meanwhile, Ema is working on animation for Third Aerial Girls Squad. She's creating hand-drawn animation for one of the characters, but she's having trouble getting the character's expression right. Aoi comes to check on her and offers some encouragement. She tells Ema that it's normal to struggle with some aspects of the job and that she should keep at it.
As the day goes on, Aoi continues to work on various tasks. She coordinates a recording session for another voice actress, checks in on the progress of the animation, and attends a meeting with the director and writers. At the end of the day, she's exhausted but happy with what she's accomplished.
The episode ends with Aoi meeting up with her friends, who work in different industries. They all talk about their jobs and how they're settling in. Aoi reveals that she's enjoying her job at the animation studio, even though it's challenging. Her friends are happy for her and encourage her to keep working hard.
