After the successful completion of the second episode, the Aoi and her team of "Musashino Animation" are looking forward to the next one. On board, they have a new member, Midori Imai, a friend of Ema who has joined as an in-between animator.

Everyone's buzzing, aiming to complete the episode within a tight deadline. However, the enthusiasm starts to fade away as they come across various challenges. The animation style of the main character Takahashi has changed, which could affect the overall look of the show if not resolved.

Besides this, the team is haunted by the issue of key frames being delayed. They have a new key animator, Hiraoka, who is responsible for providing the necessary frames. However, due to his inability to deliver on time, the team started to get worried. The pressure is mounting on Miyamori, who is in charge of coordinating the team and ensuring that everything progresses smoothly.

The studio environment is also full of chaos. Office space is limited, and people are cramped in small rooms. This extremely affects the working condition of the animators, who have to share a table as they work. Lunchtime is a task as there are barely any places to sit and eat. The show portrays the daily struggles of an animator and the stressful working experience.

The narrative is further enriched by the introduction of a new character, Taro Takanashi. Takanashi is an old friend of Miyamori, and both of them were part of their school's anime club. The show explores their backstory and how they became interested in the animation industry. Takanashi is now employed as a production assistant and has to recruit voice actors for the upcoming episode.

He encounters a problem as the professional voice actor he planned to use gets sick. Takanashi expresses the importance of voice actors and how it has a significant impact on the overall show. The episode highlights the significant role played by different players in the animation industry, and how everyone's contribution is essential for the success of an anime.

The episode does well in conveying how the animation industry demands long working hours and how it affects the life of the animators. One of the characters, Ema, is shown sleeping in the studio, which is a common characteristic of animators who need to work for long stretches without any rest.

The episode ends with the successful completion of the episode, with everyone relieved and excited to see the finished product. It concludes with a conversation between Miyamori and Takanashi, who reminds her of the importance of taking care of oneself, and how the professionalism of the voice actors inspires the team to work even harder.

The show SHIROBAKO season 1 episode 3 titled E 3 does an excellent job of portraying the challenges of the animation industry and how hard work, collaboration, and resilience is the only way of overcoming them. It also delves into the rich history of the animators and what drives them to pursue a career in animation. Overall, it is an insightful and engaging episode that keeps its audience interested from beginning to end.
