Ep 5. Yes, Deer

Lena and Martin are struggling to adjust to their new living arrangements, and tensions are high between the two of them. However, they put their differences aside to come together for Mae's volleyball game, where they learn that their daughter has sprained her ankle. Mae is devastated that she won't be able to play in the upcoming competition, and Lena and Martin both feel guilty for not being there for her.

In an attempt to make it up to Mae, Lena agrees to take her to a special spa day, while Martin takes care of the household duties and their two other children. However, things quickly go awry when Lena accidentally hits a deer with her car on the way to the spa. She's devastated, and Mae is upset that their plans have been ruined.

Meanwhile, Martin is having his own problems at home. He's struggling to balance his work and home life, and he's feeling overwhelmed with everything that's going on. When he learns that his boss is expecting him to work over the weekend, he realizes that he won't be able to attend Mae's volleyball game. However, he comes up with a plan to make it up to her by organizing a surprise game in their backyard.

As Lena tries to come to terms with what she's done, she reaches out to her ex-boyfriend Cam, who works as a wildlife ranger. Cam helps Lena deal with the deer, and even takes her and Mae on a tour of the local wildlife reserve. Lena begins to realize that she's been missing out on some of the beauty that life has to offer, and she begins to let go of some of her anger towards Martin.

When Martin's surprise backyard volleyball game doesn't go as planned, he's worried that he's disappointed Mae yet again. However, Mae surprises him by revealing that she's actually happy to be spending time with just him, and it's one of the best days of her life.

In the end, Lena and Martin both realize that they need to be more present in their children's lives and work together to make things happen. They also realize that sometimes the best memories are made during unexpected moments, like playing a game of backyard volleyball with your family.
