Stanley Cup Finals Season 2008 Episode 3 Game 3 - Red Wings vs. Penguins
- May 28, 2008
The Pittsburgh Penguins hoped that home ice would help them re-energize for a win over the Red Wings, helping them to avoid the brink of elimination in Game 3 at Melon Arena. Chris Osgood looked to extend his shutout streak to three games, but it was broken 17 minutes into the first period. Penguin captain Sidney Crosby wristed the puck past Osgood, giving the Penguins their first goal of the series, 137 minutes after the puck was dropped in Game 1. Crosby struck again two and a half minutes into the second period, as Niklas Kronwall was serving a minor penalty for hooking. Midway through the period, the Red Wings ended Marc-Andre Fleury's shutout bid with a power-play goal of their own, scored by Johan Franzen. who broke into the Penguin zone and through several defenders before stuffing the puck in on the short side. In the third period, the Penguins again stretched open the game with an even strength goal by Adam Hall, who picked up his own rebound before banking it in off the back of Osgood. The Wings pulled back to within one, when Mikael Samuelsson snapped one over the shoulder of Fleury, but it was all the offense they could muster. Despite a frantic few minutes, the Penguins kept the Wings at bay, making the series 2-1.
