In Still Open All Hours season 4 episode 1, titled "Christmas," viewers are treated to a festive holiday special in the quaint little town of Balfe.

As the episode begins, we see the shopkeeper extraordinaire Granville (played by the incomparable Sir David Jason) hard at work managing the day-to-day operations of Arkwright's corner store. It's a few days before Christmas, and the place is bustling with shoppers jockeying for the best deals on last-minute gifts and holiday treats.

Meanwhile, Granville's long-suffering love interest, the lovely Nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Lynda Baron) is preparing for the annual church bazaar, which is sure to be the social event of the season. Gladys is determined to make this year's bazaar the best one yet, and she's enlisted the help of Mrs. Featherstone (Stephanie Cole) to make it happen.

The two women are frenzied in their preparations, and Granville can't help but get swept up in their enthusiasm. He's always had a soft spot for Gladys, and as he watches her bustle about the store, he can't help but feel a pang of regret at the fact that they've never been able to make a go of it romantically.

As the holiday rush continues, Granville finds himself grappling with a number of challenges. For one, his loyal assistant, Leroy (James Baxter), has suddenly taken ill, leaving him short-staffed during the busiest time of the year. And to make matters worse, the much-loathed Mr. Newbold (Geoffrey Whitehead) is back in town, his grating voice and overbearing presence a constant source of irritation to Granville.

Despite the chaos and stress, Granville remains determined to make this a Christmas to remember. He spends his days scampering about the store, offering up deals on everything from bags of sweets to tins of biscuits. And when he's not working, he's sneaking off to plot ways to win Gladys over once and for all.

But as the hours tick down to Christmas Day, Granville finds himself facing some unexpected obstacles. A rogue group of carolers has taken over the streets of Balfe, demanding that he join in their revelry. And to top it all off, a surprise snowstorm threatens to derail all of his careful planning.

In the end, though, Granville rises to the occasion, as he always does. He manages to turn the carolers into customers, luring them into his shop with promises of hot cocoa and doughnuts. And when the snow keeps Gladys from making it to the bazaar, he pulls out all the stops to make her feel special, leaving her with a gift that just might change everything.

All in all, "Christmas" is a heartwarming, hilarious, and sweetly nostalgic episode that's sure to delight fans of Still Open All Hours. With its lovable cast of characters, witty writing, and lovingly crafted setting, it's the perfect way to ring in the holiday season and celebrate the magic of a small-town Christmas.
