A London police officer Alex Drake is shot in the year 2008 and wakes up in 1981. Before the incident she had been investigating records of another officer, named Sam Tyler, who claimed to have had a similar experience of time traveling from the present day to 1973. In 1981 she encounters many of the same people that Sam Tyler had claimed to, though they are a few years older as they should be in 1981. Like Tyler before her she finds herself working with them and often clashing due to conflict between their old-fashioned attitudes and her more modern police work.
