In the science-fiction fantasy thriller series Dark, two children go missing in a small German town. The mystery of the disappearance is creepy enough, but the search for the missing children also reveals plenty of dark secrets among the families who are looking for them.

As the series begins, the residents of a small German town are living very normal lives. But as the town's children begin to disappear, the investigation into the disappearances gradually reveals shocking secrets.

Many of the secrets seem centered around a local nuclear power plant and a network of mysterious caves underneath the plant. Eventually, links begin to appear between four local families, the Kahnwalds, Nielsens, Dopplers, and Tiedemanns. The connections between the families stretch back across multiple generations. The connections also reveal dark secrets that have profound implications for the world at large.

Ultimately, the story becomes more complex and straddles many different time periods. The characters travel through time, and the web connecting them becomes more and more complicated. Over the course of the series, the central characters are protrayed by different actors.

The series debuted on Netflix in 2017. The second season debuted in June 2019. The third and final season was released in June 2020.

The debut of the series received generally positive critical responses. However, many critics noted the strong similarities between Dark and the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. The second and third seasons received more positive reviews.

Dark is the first German-language original series produced by Netflix.
