In the first episode of Sun Records, titled "706 Union," audiences are taken back to Memphis, Tennessee in the year 1950 - a time when music was on the rise and segregation was still a harsh reality. The show follows the story of Sam Phillips (played by Chad Michael Murray), a music producer who dreams of finding and promoting the next big star in the industry. Through his iconic recording studio, Sun Records, which was located at 706 Union Avenue, Phillips embarks on a journey that would forever change the course of music history.

The episode begins with Phillips recording his latest discovery, B.B. King, who is performing his hit song "Three O'Clock Blues" in front of a live audience. However, after the performance, King reveals that he has been offered a record deal with another label and will be leaving Sun Records. This news is devastating for Phillips, who must now find a new way to keep his business afloat.

Meanwhile, a young man named Elvis Presley (portrayed by Drake Milligan) has just returned to Memphis after serving in the military. He is eager to pursue a career in music and frequents the local hangouts, where he meets fellow musicians Johnny Cash (played by Kevin Fonteyne) and Jerry Lee Lewis (played by Christian Lees). Presley is struck by the raw talent of the other musicians and the three of them form a band, hoping to catch the attention of Phillips.

In a separate storyline, young African American singer and songwriter, Ike Turner (played by Kerry Holliday), is struggling to be heard in a music industry that is dominated by white musicians. Despite his talent, he is repeatedly turned away by music executives who believe that black artists will not sell records. Determined to prove them wrong, Turner approaches Phillips in hopes of getting his music recorded.

As each of these storylines progresses, viewers are given an inside look into the music industry in the 1950s. They witness the struggles faced by black artists and the racial tension present in society at the time. They see the passion and determination of the musicians, as well as the desperation and fear of those who are struggling to make a name for themselves.

Throughout the episode, the music is a central focus. Viewers are treated to performances by the likes of B.B. King and Elvis Presley, as well as original songs written for the show. The music is raw, emotional and powerful - a testament to the talent of those who were a part of the music industry in the 1950s.

Overall, "706 Union" is a promising start to Sun Records. The episode is engaging, the music is exceptional and the characters are well-written. It effectively sets the stage for what is sure to be an exciting and emotional journey through the history of music.
