Ep 1. The Auditions Part I

  • June 30, 2019

Sunday Best is a gospel singing competition and music series that first premiered in 2007 on BET. It showcases the talent of America's best gospel singers. The show is back with a ninth season of exciting gospel music and tough competition.

In the season premiere, The Auditions Part I, viewers are introduced to a new group of gospel singers from across the country, who have come to Atlanta, Georgia to audition for the show. The show's panel of judges, comprising gospel music legends, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell and Jonathan McReynolds, are tasked with the sometimes difficult job of selecting the best singers from among the thousands of hopefuls who are vying for a spot on the show.

As is the custom with reality TV music shows, the episode begins with a montage of auditions, with some of the best and most memorable performances edited together for the audience's viewing pleasure. Some of the performers are fantastic, with their soulful voices and inspirational lyrics touching the hearts of the judges.

The first couple of auditions are relatively tame, featuring singers who, while good, do not necessarily stand out. But as the hour goes by, things start to heat up, with a number of singers delivering outstanding performances. The judges are impressed by the energy, attitude and stage presence of some of the contestants, who not only have great voices but also know how to connect with the audience and deliver an authentic gospel performance.

There are also some auditions that do not go as planned. There are a few singers who forget the lyrics, start off-key or fail to show the judges enough personality or showmanship. These contestants are given honest feedback by the judges, who try to offer constructive criticism and encouragement to help the singers improve their performances.

One of the highlights of the episode is the story of a young man named Daniel, who has just lost his brother and finds solace in singing gospel music. His moving performance of the song "Amazing Grace" brings tears to the judges' eyes, and they are unanimous in their decision to offer him a spot on the show. Daniel's story, like many of the others featured in this episode, is a testament to the power of gospel music to heal, inspire and uplift the human spirit.

As the auditions continue, we get to see some of the other elements that make Sunday Best such an engaging show. There are the backstories of the singers, such as a couple that met while singing in the church choir and a young woman who is pursuing her dream of becoming a gospel singer in spite of opposition from her family. There are also the interactions between the judges, who have a great rapport and are not afraid to tease each other or get emotional when they see a particularly moving performance.

Overall, this episode of Sunday Best delivers exactly what fans of the show have come to expect: dynamic gospel performances, heartfelt stories and a judging panel that brings both expertise and heart to the table. The competition is only just beginning, but it already promises to be an exciting and inspiring journey for all involved. Gospel music fans, reality TV aficionados and anyone who enjoys uplifting entertainment will definitely want to tune in to Sunday Best season 9.
