Ep 2. The Ward Family and The Wren Family
- February 16, 2010
In Supernanny UK season 6 episode 2, viewers are introduced to two families struggling with discipline and communication issues. The first family, the Ward family, consists of parents Mark and Karen and their three children, 11-year-old Kaitlyn, 9-year-old Caitlin, and 5-year-old Jack. Mark works long hours at his job as a plumber, leaving Karen to handle most of the parenting responsibilities at home. However, Karen admits to being inconsistent with discipline and often becoming overwhelmed by her children's behavior.
Supernanny Jo Frost observes the family's chaotic mealtime routine, where the children are constantly talking over each other and demanding attention from their parents. She also witnesses Kaitlyn and Caitlin's disrespectful behavior towards their mother, ignoring her requests and talking back. Jo works with Karen to establish clear boundaries and consequences for misbehavior, as well as implementing a routine for mealtime and homework.
The second family, the Wren family, consists of parents Amanda and Daryl and their two children, 7-year-old Alfie and 4-year-old Jack. Amanda works as a teaching assistant while Daryl is a stay-at-home dad, but their conflicting schedules often lead to miscommunication and disagreements about parenting styles. Alfie's behavior and tantrums have been causing tension in the household, and Jack is often overlooked due to his brother's outbursts.
Jo observes the family's morning routine, where Alfie refuses to get ready for school and becomes physically aggressive towards his parents. She also witnesses Daryl's lack of confidence in disciplining his children, often giving in to Alfie's demands. Jo works with the family to establish a consistent routine and discipline plan, as well as teaching Daryl assertiveness skills and ways to connect with his children.
Throughout the episode, Jo emphasizes the importance of communication and positivity in parenting, while also holding the children accountable for their actions. Both families make progress with implementing the strategies Jo provides and the episode ends with a heartwarming conclusion.
