Ep 5. Gender Bender

In the fifth episode of season three of Teachers, titled "Gender Bender," the teachers at Fillmore Elementary are introduced to the concept of pronouns and gender identity. When one of their students, Jacob, requests to be referred to with they/them pronouns, the teachers struggle to understand and implement this change.

Meanwhile, Ms. Watson is tasked with teaching a sex education class and becomes flustered when the students start asking more detailed questions about sexual identity and preference. Ms. Snap finds that she enjoys pushing boundaries when it comes to gender norms and soon becomes obsessed with wearing a fake mustache and dressing in more traditionally masculine clothing. Ms. Feldman feels left out and not quite sure where she fits in with all the new gender discussion and decides to try identifying as non-binary herself.

As the teachers navigate this new territory, they learn important lessons about respecting diversity, the importance of language, and how far-reaching the effects of gender can be. In the end, they come together to support Jacob and learn to adapt to new pronouns and perspectives.

This episode takes a humorous yet thought-provoking look at the importance of inclusivity, acceptance, and understanding in today's society and the ways in which our language and cultural norms can often be barriers to this.
