The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a British television series that first aired in 1984 and ran for a total of 10 seasons. The show is based on the iconic detective character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and follows the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his trusted friend, Dr. John Watson, as they solve various mysterious cases in London.

The third episode of season one is titled "The Naval Treaty". The episode begins with the introduction of Percy Phelps, a young man who is a clerk in the Foreign Office and a friend of Watson's. Phelps has been entrusted with a very important naval treaty, which he was supposed to transcribe and deliver to a senior government official.

However, while he was working on the document, someone broke into his office and stole the treaty. Phelps is devastated by the theft and fears for the consequences, both for himself and for his country if the treaty falls into the wrong hands. He approaches Holmes for help in recovering the stolen document, and the renowned detective agrees to take on the case.

Holmes and Watson visit Phelps' office and conduct an investigation. They examine the scene of the crime and question witnesses, but are unable to find any useful leads. Undeterred, Holmes decides to visit the man who had last seen Phelps before the theft occurred, a man named Joseph Harrison.

Harrison explains to Holmes that he had indeed seen Phelps on the night in question. However, he had been too drunk to remember anything specific. Nevertheless, he does manage to provide Holmes with one crucial piece of information: he had seen a man loitering outside the building before the theft took place.

Using this lead, Holmes is able to determine that the thief must have had an accomplice who was keeping watch outside while Phelps was working. Further investigation leads Holmes and Watson to a boarding house, where they discover the identity of both the thief and his accomplice. However, the document itself remains elusive.

Holmes and Watson continue their investigation and eventually discover the location of the document. However, there is one final obstacle to overcome before the treaty can be recovered and delivered safely to its intended recipient.

"The Naval Treaty" is a classic episode of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes that showcases the detective's renowned deductive skills. The episode is a thrilling mystery that sees Holmes and Watson trying to outmaneuver a clever thief and his accomplice. The chemistry between the two main characters is excellent, and the episode features some great dialogue and a well-crafted plot that keeps viewers guessing until the very end.

Overall, "The Naval Treaty" is a must-watch for fans of Sherlock Holmes and detective stories in general. The episode is a prime example of the quality of this iconic television series and a great introduction to the world of Holmes and Watson for newcomers.
